About Alchemystic Studio
queering and re-indigenizing yoga
Alchemystic Studio is a space rooted in queer, bipoc, and otherwise marganalized identities’ liberation through the modalities of ancestral wisdom and decolonial embodiment. We cultivate healing through inclusive yoga, somatic resilience, and creative expression—dismantling colonial frameworks while nurturing sacred belonging. Guided by integrity and intersectional justice, we empower community, uplift teachers, and aspire to collective liberation. Alchemystic Studio strives to be a space of authentic and accessible wellness; bridging ancient lineages and contemporary activism.
Our studio has taken a journey in both the digital and in person realms, to see what happens when we carve out space that centers marganalized identities in the yoga and wellness world, while reclaiming indigenous practices as the current stewards of lineage medicines. Since it’s inception, Alchemystic has impacted 1500+ people through our online offerings, and several hundred in person. Virtually, we have hosted online yoga classes, extended learning cohorts, mutli-day festivals, book clubs, and peer support spaces to bring wellness and spirituality to folks in their homes. We have showcased the work of 30+ qtibipoc teachers and artists through our platform both in person and online to increase exposure and battle erasure. In person, we have had the honor of hosting qtibipoc centered yoga classes, collaborating with other orgs, artists, and organizers to provide various wellness events for the community, and so far have co-hosted three international yoga retreats. Alchemystic’s social media has served as a space for anyone with the internet to access free information, discourse, and art about all things decolonial yoga, indigenous medicines, erotic healing, social justice, community care and more creating a global network of like-minded people. Our work is living, and has evolved and grown over the years to respond to feedback from the community, integrate lessons learned, and stay topical with current events. None of this would be possible without folks showing up and adding their magic to the space by participating in our offers, collaborating with us, teaching on the platform, donating funds, and awarding grants; we are forever grateful to those who believe in and support our work.
Namasté! My name is Vuzmal Meesha Sharma (they/she) and I am a Kashmiri and Punjabi seeker, activist, yoga teacher, artist, disruptor, and community organizer. Guided by ancestral healing work, a thirst for spiritual knowledge, and a deep belief that humans are meant to consciously evolve towards higher levels of reciprocity with one another and our Earth, Alchemystic Studio is a space that I hope provides representation and sanctuary for others who are on a similar journey.
Yoga is my way of life. Regardless of whether or not I am physically teaching the practice, I bring my ancestry and knowledge of this tradition everywhere I go.
Here is a bit about the journey that led to the inception of Alchemystic Studio. I was raised by my elders to know our ancestral practices; pujas, cuisine, clothing, music, theatre, dance, philosophy, nuance, and culture. I was the first of my entire lineage to be born outside of South Asia, serving as a bridge between worlds, and also sometimes feeling lost or confused as to where I come from or belong. I believe my ancestors guide my journey, and use yoga as a secular and mystical modality to help me find belonging and home within my own vessel rather than one singular land, country, religion, or place.
I spent time in college honing my writing skills and learning about anti-facist and decolonial praxis much to my hard-working and science minded immigrant parent’s dismay (maaf kharo nah). I studied global comparative literature, women’s studies, literature of the Indian Ocean, African-American studies, First Nations wisdom, capitalism’s current use of contemporary slavery, media and propaganda, and creative writing. One of my favorite professors has published all of his lectures online for the public here if any of these themes intrigue you: https://www.sutjhally.com/
My entire life I’ve been fascinated by how oppression, spirituality, and art have coincided throughout history, and how I can create my own personal alchemystic expression to contribute in some small way. Studying biology grounded me into the great link between the cosmic and the earthly; seeing the Divine in every aspect of life here on Earth, and feeling called to protect and advocate for It.
I found yoga asana in college too, and began a journey of facing trauma and somatic re-learning there. I have now been married to my mat for 15 years of practice. I got a 200 hr yoga teaching certificate in 2015, that equipped me with knowledge on anatomy and sequencing, but I also knew there was far more to learn. I continue my education through taking courses and classes led by other South Asian peers and thought leaders, sitting with elder wisdom keepers and family, research, svādhyāya, and daily sādhanā. I am now E-RYT certified, meaning I have taught over 1000 hours of yoga, which is a true honor.
Informed by lived experience, my teaching style is trauma-sensitive, nurturing, focused on pranic healing, in devotion to Earth and ancestors, and led by love.
Giving a year and a half to Greenpeace is where I learned a few ways that non-profits can operate to try to combat the harms of capitalism, lessons I carried into my business. Living in the great paradox of being anti-capitalist but living within a deeply rooted capitalistic system on Turtle Island is a constant journey of rowing a boat upstream; the more folks there are in the boat that see the end goal, the more easeful it becomes to build.
Regardless of how the journey continues in the future, I am incredibly thankful and proud to say that founding and nurturing Alchemystic Studio is the current work I do. Thank you.
“I have had the true honor to know Meesha as a passionate activist, a mindful and supportive yogi, and an amazing friend! We bonded over our love for yoga and our drive to protect our earth and the people who live here while working for GreenPeace. Whenever the cause or campaign we were working on would start to feel too big to take on Meesha was always there to help bring things into perspective. In order to reset and shift her mindset through yoga, she would often pop into a handstand, allowing her heart to rise above her head. Meesha leads and speaks from her heart and this is powerful. I am so excited to share this safe space and see Alchemystic Studio grow!”
“My love and admiration on a personal level which I call friendship and sisterhood has grown over the years since I first met Meesha in a yoga class she instructed at Tripower. I felt in my most comfortable yoga zone, the original Indian tradition rather than a too westernized version. Her light, smile, choice of music, Mantras, adjustments, and fabulous sequence made this experience one of my best memories. Often I recall it to give me strength when my own practice or teaching becomes a challenge due to exhaustion. Her passion for yoga reminds me of my own passion for Bhakti 💙And her added beauty and sensuality makes the practice an absolutely unique experience. 💙🙏🏼📿✨”
