Forest Tender

*Located at Joaquin Miller park in Oakland, CA

As community organizers, we are chronically overworked, exhausted, and lonely – despite our work being deeply relational. Therapy and community circles can bring up big emotions – but can sometimes leave the heaviness stale in the air. Making our pain visible is a great way to address it, but it can also be triggering leaving us operating from a state of activation; hyper, over functioning and/or exhausted and under functioning. What do we do with this pain?

Forest Tender is a place for us to move past awareness and into embodiment to digest, let go, and compost stagnant energy. Together we will be processing the state of our world and our roles within it – we’ll talk, move, sing, witness, study, release and rest on the forest floor.

You’ll walk away with a new sense of power, purpose, and grounding. Renewing your relationship with the land through forest bathing and stewardship, your support system will grow. An often forgotten companionship, Forest Tender will rekindle your connection to the living world rooted in practices of mutual care, resilience, and acceptance.

Meesha will be guest teaching for the November 2 class. She will provide asana, pranayama, queer yogic mythology, and a space to ask questions.

Anahata's Purpose Festival

Meesha will be teaching two classes at Anahata’s Purpose in October 16-19 at Camp Ramblewood:

– Re-Indigenizing Yoga: ancient wisdom for modern action; The many lineages of yoga have been cultivated and adapted over the last 5,000 years. This class seeks to share yoga as a multifaceted modality that combines philosophy, ethics, posture, breath, spiritual seeking, and activism; as a tool that must be practiced through the lens of critical thinking by consistent learning and un-learning. When we practice yoga as a way of being rather than a thing of doing, we begin to see its profound implications in personal and social evolution towards more compassion, equity, wholeness, and reciprocity. To re-indigenize our practice is to decolonize our mind, body, and spirit, and then take action towards re-indigenizing the world around us. It is an honor to hold this space and share this practice with you. This class will involve accessible asana (posture) practice, as well as journaling, and optional sharing.

– Queering Yogic Mythology: As with all Queer and Trans history and spirituality, much queer yoga mythology has been erased or silenced post-colonialism. When we look into Hinduism, Tantra, Sufism, Buddhism, and other spiritual teachings that have contributed to the breadth of yoga culture we have today, we can find many stories about Queer and Trans deities, saints, and students alike. This class will share some of these stories while we practice asana so that we can deeply anchor them into our bodies, and remember our Divinity as Queer and Trans people. This class will involve accessible asana (posture) practice, as well as a guided meditation for savasana.

“Appreciate y’all for such and easy and seamless event. Feeling full, grounded, and ready for the rest of June. Happy pride 🥳

Trans Mascs of Philly

“I did my first practice back in the states and felt you all with me. Definitely still feeling the effects and feeling changed by each of you. I’m so grateful that we all crossed paths, that is never an accident.”

Retreat Participant

“Hey! Just wanted to say hello. We met at the Satrang event today, you were sitting next to my mom. I whispered to her that I think I follow you on Instagram but the moment passed to acknowledge it with you. Been following you for a while and it’s nice to see you IRL!”
